CBS Features Lincoln Memorial Undercroft Renovation
CBS News recently featured one of Sentech Architectural System’s latest projects- the historic renovation of the Lincoln Memorial. The 50,000 square foot cavernous undercroft, twice the size of the memorial above, will feature a new museum that is scheduled to open to the public for the first time. The opening is scheduled to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The museum will feature exhibits on the memorial’s construction and its integral role in American history, and will seek to expand the public’s understanding of Lincoln.

The Lincoln Memorial undercroft renovation features a 15,000-square-foot museum that incorporates custom floor-to-ceiling heated, custom structural glass walls. The glass panels were manufactured with embedded heating to prevent condensation and protect historic foundations from Potomac humidity while offering views of the Undercroft’s original surfaces, 1914 builders’ graffiti and massive concrete support pillars. The completed structural glass system offers controlled access to the Undercroft and the entire 50,000 square feet of space, (almost twice the size of the memorial above), has never been seen by the public before, said Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.
Sentech Architectural Systems partnered with a renowned design team, including Architect Quinn Evans, Glazing Contractor Innovo Construction and General Contractor Consigli Construction. Sentech was instrumental in the design, engineering and system supply of an advanced, state-of-the-art condensation-proof structural glass solution for the Undercroft Museum, supplying our VetraSpan-H heated structural glass system to navigate the naturally damp and humid environment of the Undercroft. This state-of-the-art system prevents condensation, ensuring crystal-clear views of the memorial’s foundations while protecting the exhibits and allowing for a transparent solution that enables the museum to feature the work, the weight, and the imperfections of the historic Undercroft. Sentech is a proud contributor to the preservation and enhancement of this national treasure.
