Façade Design Utilizing Decorative Fins
Decorative fins have gained traction in the architectural community over the past decade for both functional and aesthetic applications. With Sentech’s fin-based systems, architects can utilize glass, aluminum, or steel to develop unique façade geometries.
Functionally, these fins offer sustainable benefits by controlling solar heat gain, reducing glare, and redirecting natural light. This leads to more energy-efficient buildings and improved indoor environments. Aesthetically, fins can be leveraged for strong visual enrichment of the façade.
Advances in manufacturing have allowed this trend to evolve rapidly, leading to an abundance of creative interpretations. We now see innovative designs using transparent, translucent, screen-printed, and dichroic glass, as well as aluminum and stainless steel. Fins can be oriented horizontally or vertically—often aligned with the sun’s path—and can even be used as adaptive elements to regulate interior temperatures.
Through elegant geometry, rhythm, and proportional spacing, decorative fins can transform a façade into a sculptural element, creating structures that are truly stunning to behold.
