New AIA Seminar: Structural Glass & Historic Building Renovations

Structural Glass FacadeSentech has just released our latest AIA-accredited seminar, Structural Glass Solutions for Historic Building Renovations.

This 1-hour seminar offers 1 AIA HSW learning unit/credit, and is focused on integrating the latest technology in glass fabrication with advancements in engineering, manufacturing, design and installation techniques to dive into historic building renovations using structural glass as the primary design element. Focused primarily on facade and overhead structures, the core focus of the session is to provide an overview of design options and technology advancements of structural glass as applied to the renovations of historic buildings. One of the key course objectives is to provide participants with the tools that will allow them to integrate structural glass in the renovation of historic structures while preserving the original building character and materials.

We cover the following in the presentation:

  • Benefits of using structural glass in the renovation of historic buildings (i.e. preservation of original building character, increased light, sustainability, expanded and connected spaces)
  • Challenges of using structural glass in the renovation of historic buildings (i.e. adapting glass to intricate geometric boundaries, integrating system selection, facade movement isolation, unknown structural behavior, scheduling & trade coordination)
  • Introduction of case studies and design examples to discuss best practices, to illustrate how design challenges can be overcome while minimizing the impact on the existing building structure
  • Case studies include museums, libraries, monuments, banks, municipal buildings and other relevant historic structures
